My Developer Desk Setup for Focus & Flow
The hardware, software, and tiny rituals that help me drop into deep work and stay there.

People ask about my setup more than almost anything else. The honest answer: the gear matters less than the habits around it. But a few choices genuinely help me find flow.
The desk itself
Clear surface, one plant, warm light. A cluttered desk is a cluttered head. I keep only what I touch daily within arm’s reach and everything else in a drawer.
Software that stays out of the way
- A single, fast editor with a quiet theme.
- A terminal I trust and barely think about.
- One window at a time, full screen, no tabs screaming for attention.
The ten-minute warm-up
Before I write a line of code, I write a sentence: what am I actually trying to do? It sounds small. It saves me hours of wandering.
Flow isn’t a place you find. It’s a place you build, one quiet choice at a time.
